Week 6
Week 6
Hello, Family and Friends from my prior Lifetime :)
Week #6.
Well this week was Long and great and slow. A huge wind storm hit on Monday just as Pday ended and we were switching to bike week. The spanish sisters dropped us off at our dinner appointment but just putting our bikes on the car and getting them off was enough to be soaked through. The storm had knocked out the power at the members house so dinner wasnt ready and we are promised that if we S.H.O.C.K (S- share the spirit, H- be honest and upfront, O- Our Purpose, C- create member missionaries, K- Keep time (no later then 6 pm and no more then an hour) the members our baptisms will double and it did come to a shock to them when we had to go before dinner was done. They did bring us dinner after we were done for the day and did thank us for our obience. I had told sister piepgrass that it would rain through dinner but be sunny before we go out, I was right but there were trees down everywhere. We had our 6 pm appt. cancel so we rode our bikes from neighbor to neighbor helping to pick up branches it was fun, we got to our 7pm appointment and they had forgotten about us, guess we need to utilize the phone better. Tuesday was good, we were on bike and rode to our 7 yr old that we teach that is autistic that is preparing to be baptized, they had a huge live oak tree, land on there garage and take the whole thing out. We were teaching an investigator outside when we watched the clouds roll in, the storm broke just as we finished that appointment and the lightning started as we were biking to winn dixie for safety. We ate lunch and the rain wasnt any lighter but at least the lightning had stopped. We had a member cancel on us so we prayed where to go, we were soaked to the core and thought it would be best to go back to the apartment and set up appointments. As we were riding back towards the apartment and rode past the member that had canceled house and they had just pulled in and saw us soaked and they invited us in and gave us towels to dry off with. (totally missed the picture moment). They just got their recommend to be sealed together as a family and that is why the bishop wanted us to work with them it made my day to hear about it.
Wednesday!!! oh what a fun day!! We rode our bikes to the church and my back tire went flat. We pumped it up and it stayed full while went to district meeting (we got to teach the district about finding refereals which is something we struggle with.) Then we went to lunch as a district. We got home long enough to grab our bikes again and then rode to our investogater that we thought was progressing and he wasnt home we called him and he said he was looking at apartments, we couldnt get a hold of him after that and then he told us he moved. all of our investagators dropped us at the same time it was a bit stressful. So we were going to follow up on a potenicial investagator and were riding down broadway and my tire went completely flat again such fun we got to walk a few miles to wal mart to buy a replacement tude since the sealant was gushing out of the valve. we locked our bikes up just as the rain was starting, we walked inside and then the cloud broke and sheats of rain fell down. We recieved a call from our ward mission leader (where we were going for dinner) his wife came and picked us up (thank goodness for trucks) and dropped us back off at the apartement, we walked to some other referrals and fixed my bike and finished studies.
Thursday we went to teach the bishop and his family, he was searching though the ward rooster to tell us who to go visit and everyone he found was either in the elders area or someone we were already working with. he wants to change the boundrey line between the elders and our area, guess we will see what happens. At least their was no rain for the rest of the week and no further bike issues. Fridays dinner was super spicy (shrimp) and about burned my mouth but it was good. and we got fed lunch friday as well, we had dinner at a spanish family home on saturday and they fed us so much food and we shocked when i was full. We only have one meal set up for June and it isnt for a couple of weeks, so if anyone has good, and fast recipes send them to me, I think i would like more of a varitey.
So to wrap up the first transfer we biked 335.333 miles, we still have no baptism dates set and our teaching pool is virtually non existant. But, I have learned to be obiedent, that it doesnt matter if it rains or not you will be wet by the end of the day. Study diligently and follow promptings.

Week 4
Week 4
This week was great, it was bike week once again, glad to report that I didnt crash my bike at all this week. We rolled over the 200 mile mark on bike yesterday. I was impressed when we were able to bike the 8.5 miles to dinner last night in about 35 mins, we arrived right at 5 pm on the spot. I was great to be able to call home yesterday for mothers day. then we went out trying to find someone to teach, we were riding towards an investogators house and i saw a street sign and thought i know that name. Quickly turned on the gps which is mounted to my bike (brillently if i dare say) and found a less active that we had been trying to get a hold off down that street, she was outside and let us leave a prayer with her and set up a return appt for next monday.
Saturday we were able to teach merna again and also on tuesday, and we went to former investagoters homes and found their neighbors willing to hear the gospel. President Summerhays would say what are the chances 100% with the lord.
Thursday was zone conference and I got to go on splits for the first time, that was scary but it was also great, the Lord really does help you get to the top of the task if you only ask. We were able to meet with a less active families that invited us to dinner twice and we had 3 less active (returning members) in sacrament yesterday
Zone conference was amaziing and since all cars recieved the highest rating we got extra miles :) less biking :)
Wednesday morning we did service got to move boxes and reorganize a closet. that night we did a blitz in our area and were very lucky to have 4 sets of missionaries knocking all at once found 6 families who were willing to listen hopefully will investagate the church futher
Tuesday was awesome we went to followup on potenical investagaters in the complex next to ours and ran into the spanish sisters there we attempted our appt. and then left. Luckily before the cops showed up and threatened the other sisters with tresspassing.
Monday we were able to teach the hensons and then had a dinner with the luke family. it was great to get to know others in the ward
Well over all it was an excellent week, this week will be even better, dont forget to be bold, and share the gospel that we love with our family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers... we never know who the lord is preparing to recieve the gospel.
Love you all look forward to hearing from you!

Week 3
WEEK 3
Florida is well, I can't believe that i went into the mtc over a month ago now. They say that the days are long and the weeks are short. but to me it seems as though the weeks are long, days are too short and the month flew by. My companion says that i will probably kill her off. I thought that it was an insult at first but as she explained it really means i will likely be her last companion/trainee she goes home on my birthday. So it is likely that I will start training that day, just over 13 weeks away. insane. With all the sisters in the mission field they just changed the mission leadership. still have zone leaders, and district leaders, but now they leadership also included sister training leaders, which mostly is responsible for completing 24 hour companion exchanges with the sisters.
I cant believe how fast time is flying. We had a miraclous day the other day which was well needed. We had only been able to teach 3 lessons before Friday and 3 member lesson and 2 less active all week and it was kind of discouraging, because we would go out search and finding, and not finding and not be able to share the message. Well Friday, I decided that i need to just turn it over to the lord. I found it easier to study and didnt find myself to fighting to stay awake for personal study, i was studying a talk on project purification, and what things should I fast from for the next transfer (ie complaining, or other bad habits) and was should i commit with the lord that i would do every day. We studied the harvestor as a companionship and how to improve blessing those we find before we teach as paul taught in the new testament. We did our 12-week new missionary training and it also aligned with finding.
We had our first appt. with an investagator that we stopped by on sunday and she said that she would talk about christ but not read from the book of mormon and that we shouldnt talk to her about it either, we didnt know what to expect from our appt but felt that we needed to read 3 nephi 11 with her so that she would understand that it is about Christ and his work and word. It was interesting as we started she kept interupting and when we read the verse of when Jesus Christ testifying of himself her heart completely softened to the book of mormon before our eyes.
Our next appt was a referral from mormon.org and she was spose to be home alone but her sons were home we were able to leave the saviors peace and blessing in her home and then to teach about the first vision and her son as we asked him to read james 1:5 read it then completely emmersed himself in the chapters in awe. the older son sat and listened to the first vision and kept saying wow!!! we gave them the book of mormon and he also immediately started to read it as if satifying a thirst.
We went to the apt. complex accross from us where we had potential investagators and sis piepgrass almost knocked on the wrong door, the sister we were trying to visit wasnt home but we decided to knock on the other door she invited us in and we were able to teach and leave the saviors peace and blessing with her. And set up a return appt.
We went to a members house, which after meeting with the bishop in pec yesterday may be a less active family, and were about to share the last testimony about joseph smith with them and encouraged them to take a copy of the Book of Mormon and to write their testimony in the front of it. We did the 7 question quiz and had them brainstorm and challenged them to give it away.
They invited us to dinner thursday after that appt so we didnt scare them away from missionary work
We were about to teach a family that we taught the restoration to before and had stopped by several time and tried calling and gotten no response. the spanish sister saw her outside in the rain on thursday evening on bike and she said they were waiting for us to return so we did. and taught the plan of salvation
We are working with a less active part member family and had a very simple lesson on prayer. I love feeling the spirit work in lives for the better.
we had 7 lessons recieved referals and 4 new investagators in one day
So things that i have learned so far on my mission after 1 month/
1. Dont get sick in the MTC
2. Work hard
3. Riding a bike in a skirt isnt as challenging as thought
4. Be weary of following your companion while off roading on bike
5. it is easier to stay awake if you work out hard in the morning
6. it is easier to work out if you read the conference talks (goes faster)
7. love the lord and serve him the best you can
MTC and Conference
MTC
I love being in the MTC. It is so wonderful to be somewhree where you are constantly surrounded with others that desire the same things that I do. We constancely can feel the the Holy Ghost guiding us in our studies to prepare us to teach our investagators.
Since my assigned companion didnt make it into the MTC. (no idea why wish they would tell me) I am in a trio of sisters. Sister Lee is from Henderson NV and Sister Calder is from Saratoga Springs, UT. They are both amazing and each have a powerful testimony that have strengthened mine. It feels as though we have been together forever. The love you feel so quickly for your companions is amazing. Our district and zone for right now has 7 missionarys, the three sister which all report to the florida tampa mission and the 4 elders (Raia, Edwards, Morse, and Busch) who are serving in the south dakota mission.
We have already recieved our travel plans for our flight to the mission field. We leave on monday the 15th for the mission home where we will stay the night then tuesday we will get our new assignment and zone. We "GET" to leave the MTC at 4 am in the morning to go to the airport. We fly into Alanta then on to tampa will land in tampa around 4 pm.
Some of you know that I lost my nametag before I even got to my room, well it was found and I have a name again :) I am starting to get used to Sister Sliger, but it still seems surreal to me. I never thought that the MTC would be so much fun. We spend our day learning about the gospel and laughing. My favorite quote so far as been,
That Obediance brings blessings and Exact Obediance brings miricles.
We have strived as a companionship to live for miricles. I loved watching conference in the MTC, it was funny to listen and hear an awesome quote and see all the head bow down to write it down at the same time. It was like having two days off in the mtc and we are feeling stressed as we only have 4 days of classes left here :{. I have been memorizing the 4th section of the doctrine of covenants and serving with all my heart, might, mind, and strength.
Some quotes I lvoed from conference
first that there are now 65,634 full time missionarys, and 20000 with calls and another 6000 in the process. Wow it is amazing and the Field is White and being harvested.
President Packer
We have no greater friend, fall and kneel before his wounded feet.
Stay in condition to respond to inspiration, each can know what they need to know.
Bishop Davies
to withstand the tempest we must build on a sure foundation (ether 12)
Sister Dalton
Where ere you are, act well thy part
Elder Craig A Cardon
The savior forgives sins here on earth not just on the judgement day
Elder Richard G Scott
Satan will explit our weakness stay on the lords side and you will will every time
Elder Stanley G Ellis
We are not spiritual orphans, We are NOT Alone.. dont have to be lost.. We have been shone the way.
The church is true it is guided by apostles and prophets to direct us and help us stay on the path to fulfill our fathers work and return to live with him in glory again. He restored his gospel and the book of mormon was translated by the power of the holy Ghost to guide us through our lives. Live like a disiple of christ, our examples matter.
Love you all and miss you

Seffner Week 2
Arrived
Tampa is amazing and yes it is very humid, we decided yesterday to stop and knock at one of the part member home on the way to an appointment and it was jsut barely raining, she didnt answer right away and we turned around to go and it was a complete swimming pool, she finally answered her door and it was back to just a drizzle when we finished teaching her about 15 mins later.
We opened a new area so we have no investigators yet, but have knocked almost a 100 doors this week, and we finally got moved into our apartment on saturday after sleeping on couches of the spanish sisters in brandon we are now living in our area which is the seffner area. just north of brandon and east of tampa. I just sent debbie an email a few minutes ago, and it is pday on mondays.
We turn the car over to the hermenas today so time to get the bike out, wish me luck. I miss everyone and tell them that i love them.

So i landed in florida on monday, got to the mission home had a night of orinatation and then stayed at the mission home, tuesday morning we went to the church at 650 am early i know, then we had another 5 hours of training and then around noon we got assigned our trainers, my companion and trainer is Sister Piepgrass and she is from canada, she knows your mom, she said that her and her companion when she served in naples started to type up her personal history oh and that she is a crazy driver. seems to be doing well, I am assigned to the seffner area, just to the north of brandon and east of tampa, we opened this area so the first week was very slow going and alot of door knocking, the first night we were able to teach one lesson on the book of mormon and also on the restoration, she said that we could come back but ran inside when she saw us coming, we had the car last week and so we move to bikes today, but it is only 8 miles to get to the church so not too bad, we have car for a week then bikes for a week.
We met with the bishop and the leadership of the ward yesterday and so now we have a few part member and less active families to work with. Our recent convert pool is very small but it will grow. and We dont have any progressing invesetogators at this time.
We can only write on pdays and pdays are on mondays. I can only check email for about 20 mins and have to write the mission president. I have found that snail mail is a blessing but it is also very nice to recieve emails, your email is the last one that I recieved and i was so glad to have something to reply too.
We have everything new which is nice in the kitchen. and We should be recieving our washer and dryer on thursday just waiting for them to be delivered. all of the apartments that my companion has been in have had their own washers
